Memorial Hospital MRI Receives Helium Fill-up
The
MRI in Memorial Hospital’s Imaging and Radiology Services department
was recently refilled with helium during a routine check-up. The liquid helium is used to cool the superconductive magnet coil in the MRI scanner.
Helium exists at the extremely low temperature of -452.2 degrees
Fahrenheit. The electricity and residual heat from use eventually burns
off some of the helium over time. The helium is refilled every nine to
twelve months by a helium supply service based in Otis, KS. Shown with
the MRI is Jarod Haselhorst, Memorial Hospital MRI Technologist.
wow that temperature is near absolute zero
