Kiwanis Club Donates Books for Baby Baskets

Kiwanis Club Donates Books for Baby Baskets

The Abilene Kiwanis Club donated children’s books to the Memorial Health System Volunteer Corps (MHSVC) for baby baskets.  Shown are (from left): Holly Pomeroy, MH Registered Nurse; Jo Schwartz, Kiwanis Club member; Joe Sanfilippo, MHSVC volunteer and Kiwanis Club member; and Michelle McClanahan, MHS Director of Volunteer Services.
The Memorial Health System Volunteer Corps (MHSVC) recently received a donation of books for the Baby Basket Program from the Abilene Kiwanis Club.  Kiwanis reminds parents that sharing nursery rhymes helps children develop memory skills and an appreciation for rhymes and rhythms, expand vocabulary and imagination, develop listening skills, and discover that words are fun and made up of sounds.  The Kiwanis Club is a student-focused organization that holds student programs and fundraisers to benefit all ages of youth.

The MHSVC gives every baby born in the Birthing Center at Memorial Hospital a basket filled with useful gift items donated by the MHSVC and community organizations.  For more information, contact Michelle McClanahan, Director of Volunteer Services, at 263-6692.
