Dir of Rehab and Sports Med Speaks at Luncheon

DIRECTOR OF REHABILITATION & SPORTS MEDICINE TO SPEAK AT LUNCH MEETING

Jeff Sanborn, Memorial Health System Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Director, will be the guest speaker at the Healthwise 55 Luncheon. He will speak on the topic “Fall Risk Reduction and Prevention”. The event will be on Thursday, September 17, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Conklin Conference Center at Memorial Hospital, located at 511 N.E. 10th, Abilene.

More than one-third of adults 65 and older fall each year in the United States. Among older adults, falls cause over 39 percent of injury deaths, making them the leading cause by a wide margin.  20 to 30 percent of people who fall suffer moderate-to-severe injuries such as bruises, hip fractures, or head traumas. This presentation will show who is at risk for falls, causes for falls, and what can be done to decrease the risk of falls.

Healthwise 55 is a luncheon and health information program hosted by the MHS Volunteer Corps. It is open to the public for individuals ages 55 and older. It includes a meal followed by a health care professional speaking on a health-related topic. The cost is $5.00 to cover the price of the meal. Please call Michelle McClanahan, Director of Volunteer Services, at (785) 263-6692 by Monday, September 14, to make a reservation.
