CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT SOIL CONSERVATION
Learn and Grow Depot children are shown learning about soil erosion from Dickinson County Conservation District staff. |
Learn and Grow Depot children learned about soil this summer in various ways. The children planted and tended a garden, and in a related activity, they learned about soil conservation.
Cindy Woofter, District Manager of the Dickinson County Conservation District, used a stream bank trailer to demonstrate the impact soil erosion can have on our environment. The kids dug streams and placed people and objects around the streams in the stream bank trailer. As the trailer pumped water into the streams, the children were able to see the effects of soil erosion on houses, bridges, railroad tracks, and people. The class discussion related this event to everyday life and the importance of caring for the soil and our environment.
