MHS Increases Its Ability To Help Patients
The hospital purchased a neurovascular coil for the MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) unit which will expand the number of exams that can be done locally.
According to Jim Barten, Memorial Hospital Radiology Department Director, the neurovascular coil is specialized for nerves and vessels of the head and neck area. “This coil enables us to get a better image of the area from the top of the heart up to the brain. With the aging population and the increase in the number of stroke patients, we are fortunate that technology is growing and treatment options are expanding.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stroke is a major cause of adult disability and the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. Barten states, “It is so important to catch problems early or even before they arise. This new equipment allows us to do that. We are pleased to be able to offer our patients this enhanced service with the added convenience of being close to home.”
