Taste of the Arts Event This Saturday in Abilene
ABILENE,
KAN. - Downtown Abilene is the place to be on Saturday, Sept. 27, to
enjoy art and food created and showcased by area artists and local
businesses. The "two for one" event is sponsored by the Abilene
Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) with generous support from the
Community Foundation of Dickinson County, Flower Box and Celebrations
Party Store.
Start
off your afternoon with the free Arts Walk from 2 - 6 p.m. Area artists
will be displaying and selling their work in participating downtown
businesses. You can start your tour at any point-just look for the
balloons and pick up a walking map to continue your walking arts tour!
Participating
artists and their hosting businesses include: Bonnie Karraker at
Abilene Downtown Antique Mall, Andrea Fuhrman and Duane Kalman at
Amanda's Bakery/Mayme's Cottage, Dennis Biggs at American Family
Insurance, Karen Cooper at Bauman Carpet & SK Designs, Jo Schwartz
at Benjamin Edwards, Karen Stuchlik at Black & Company Realty,
Andrew Stuchlik at Unique Essence, Molly Howard at Countrypolitan, Ted
Houlton at Haug Realty, Pat Little at Edward Jones Investments, Doug
Nuttleman at Kansas Best Real Estate, Deborah Holt at Material Girls
Quilt Shop, Paul Shurson at RHV Do-It Best Hardware, Chelsea McKee and
Ryan Negus at Rivendell Bookstore, Casey Callis at Steinhauser's
Hallmark, Tracine Saulter and Barry West at Treasures by Tracine, and
Tiffany Roney at Hairtiques. Music will be provided by the Graefe Girls
at Whatever in Hairtiques and Watson-Kolacny will perform at Little Ike
Park.
After
all that walking and working up an appetite, head over to the Abilene
Civic Center for the Taste of Abilene, the second part of this "two-fer"
event. A $20 ticket is required for admission, allowing ticket holders
to sample a variety of food items from 10 local restaurants and
caterers. A limited number of tickets are available. Advance tickets may
be purchased at the Abilene CVB located in the Civic Center at 201 NW
2nd. Beer and wine will be available by donation to attendees over 21
years of age. Entertainment will be provided courtesy of Eddie and
Robert Hiebert, Abilene. Even the art will continue at the Civic Center
as some artists will have additional pieces on display including a
showcase featuring some artwork created by Abilene's favorite son --
President Dwight David Eisenhower.
Participating
restaurants and caterers include Amanda's Bakery & Bistro,
AppleMint Catering, The Dish, Foodies Paradise, Hitching Post, Ike's
Place Bar & Grill, La Fiesta, Mr. K's Farmhouse, Panda Kitchen,
Sweet Endings and West's Deli.
The
"Taste of the Arts" is a promotional preview to raise awareness for the
multi-day "5 Star Arts Festival," that will debut in 2015. These events
connect the community and visitors with area artists, downtown
businesses and local eating establishments all at once. Be sure to

The
CVB is the marketing arm of the City of Abilene promoting all Abilene
has to offer and attracting visitors to this community. The CVB located
at 201 NW 2nd Street, Abilene, is housed in the restored 1928
Union Pacific Depot along with the Abilene Visitor Information Center
and 160-person meeting room.
