Press Release: MSH EBOLA PREPAREDNESS

MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM FOLLOWING EBOLA PREPAREDNESS PROTOCOL

Memorial Health System is taking precautionary measures and following the regular updates from Kansas Department of Health and Environment regarding preparedness protocol if a possible Ebola patient should seek treatment at Memorial Hospital or Heartland Health Care Clinic.

According to Dr. Bill Short, Memorial Hospital Chief Medical Officer, it is unlikely that Ebola will occur in this area but Memorial is prepared should the unexpected happen.   He states, “Memorial has put a lot of effort into being prepared.  The most important thing we want patients to know is, if you have a fever, have traveled to Africa, or think you have been around someone who has traveled to Africa, we ask that you call Memorial Hospital Emergency Department at 263-6661 with your concerns instead of coming in. We will do the first screening over the phone.  We will then be prepared to receive the patient using extra precautionary measures when he/she comes in.”

Ebola can only be spread through direct contact with blood or bodily fluids of a person who is sick with the illness.  It is not spread through the air or by water.
